Last call to the Final 4: Granitas or Dragunas?

The last quarter-final match. A quarter-final that should have been played a week ago, but for obvious reasons (COVID) it was postponed until this weekend. Granitas Kaunas and Dragunas Klaipeda are fighting for the last spot in the Baltic League Final Four.

The defending champions Dragunas won the first match 31:24. The Klaipeda City club controlled the whole match. The home team jumped off to a five-goal lead in the first period and didn’t look back in the second, pushing it to seven. Granitas coach Vaidotas Grosas expressed his dissatisfaction after the game, saying, “I lacked desire, I didn’t recognize my team…” The tone was different in the next camp. Gintaras Cibulskis was pleased with Dragunas’ good victory. But he kept his emotions in check as it was just a first leg.

And those are only echoes of the first fight. Disappointment or delight has already passed. Tomorrow is a fresh day, a new battle, and it’s all or nothing.

‘A rematch versus Dragunas, who lead by seven goals. Last weekend, we were preparing for the game, but the squad logged three COVID cases. Thank you to the Dragunas club for agreeing to postpone the game. Of course, the illnesses didn’t help us, but we’ll do everything we can to win at home with the right result,’ said Granitas’ coach V.Grosas before the upcoming game tomorrow.

The second leg of the quarter-finals will take place tomorrow (April 9) at 14:00.
