Granitas-Karys delivered an exceptional performance to claim a decisive 31:23 victory against MSĢ in a Baltic Handball League match that showcased the home team’s skill, discipline, and tactical precision. The match, played in front of an enthusiastic crowd at LSMU Arena, saw Granitas-Karys maintain control from start to finish, solidifying their position in the league standings.
From the opening whistle, Granitas-Karys set an assertive tone. Simas Butkus, one of the standout players of the match, opened the scoring in the first minute, signaling the team’s intent to dominate. A quick succession of goals followed, with Matas Jurkevičius and Manvydas Lazauskas playing pivotal roles in extending the early lead. By the eighth minute, the scoreboard read 5:1 in favor of Granitas-Karys, a gap that proved difficult for MSĢ to bridge.
Despite the relentless pressure from the home side, MSĢ showed flashes of brilliance, largely thanks to the efforts of Elgars Kušners. Kušners’ determination was evident throughout the match as he found the back of the net eight times, keeping MSĢ within striking distance during key moments. However, missed opportunities plagued the visiting team, with Endijs Šnepsts struggling to convert his 19 attempts into more than four goals.
Granitas-Karys went into halftime with a 13:9 lead, a margin that reflected their defensive solidity and offensive efficiency. In the second half, the home team continued to dictate the pace, with Butkus and Lazauskas leading the charge. Butkus, in particular, was clinical from the seven-meter line, converting four penalty shots and finishing the game with seven goals to his name. Lazauskas added six more, demonstrating both flair and consistency in his play.
MSĢ’s efforts to mount a comeback were repeatedly thwarted by Granitas-Karys’ disciplined defense and swift counterattacks. Nedas Buronko’s second-half goal highlighted the team’s ability to capitalize on turnovers, further extending their lead. By the final whistle, the eight-goal margin underscored Granitas-Karys’ dominance on the day.
